Happy Weekend! Tomorrow my sweet Brody turns 10. Yikes! He is getting so old! I wanted to pop in real fast to share some new resources that I created over the summer for reading and math. I don’t know about your kids, but my kids LOVE choice! Even if it is all still the same kind of work and still the same skill, just something about being able to choose is so awesome to them.
With that in mind, I created reading choice boards.
I created a “mini” choice board for each common core reading literature and reading informational standard. Here is a close up:
The choice boards are two to a page and have a total of 8 tasks that are directly aligned to the standard! The best part? All the kids need are the books in your library (and maybe a science or social studies textbook). These choice boards have tasks that really get the kids thinking about what they are reading. And it has them practicing the common core standard, too. Can’t beat that!
I have also included a plain black and white option as well. This way the kids can color or shade in each task as they complete it. There are so many different ways you can use these! Here are a few ideas:
- Weekly Homework
- Independent Reading Tasks
- Morning Work
- Daily 5 Center
- RTI Reading
- And So Much More!
I have the reading choice boards available for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, and you can find them by click here.
And since I cannot forget about Math, I also have Math Choice boards for Grades 4 & 5!
Here are some examples from my 5th grade Number and Operations set.

I just purchased your reading choice boards. This is great! We've just begun metacognition and thinking about our reading. This will be a great activity for them to use as a follow-up to their sticky-note thinking. Thanks!

Can you tell me how you go about creating this process? I teach 7th and love this concept. I would love to be able to relate it to middle school reading!

HI Courtney, do you mean creating the actual choice boards? or starting them with the students? If you are referring to the latter, here is a post that may help: https://jenniferfindley.com//2015/09/choice-board-scoring-resources-freebies.html
Thanks!

These are awesome! I want to make my own sets for my middle school kids. I wonder if you have blank versions of some of your products? Something that I could make for my kids who have 7th & 8th grade standards? Super cute! I love the blog! Thank you.
