After this initial discussion, show the video with fill in blank lyrics handout provided with each video. I like the fill in blank handout (versus the completed lyrics handout) because it promotes active listening. After the video, go over lyrics with the students as a whole group or with partners or small groups. You could even play the video again and this time pausing at the blanks and discussing.

2. Use the supplemental resources as formative assessments.

One of the parts of effective test prep is assessing your students in an ongoing way to ensure the test prep is effective. You can use the supplemental resources on Flocabulary to do this. The activities and quizzes (quizzes are only available for paid subscribers) can be used to assess your students’ understanding of the topic.

If you signup for the free trial (more about that later), you have access to each activity. The activities we have done are each two page with multiple questions. I prefer to use all but one of these questions as partner work while I monitor and question the partners for understanding. After the partners have completed the assigned questions, we come back together and discuss the answers as a class. Then, the final question would be used as an exit slip for the activity and completed independently.

3. Use the results of the assessment as a starting point for small group re-teaching.
