You guys, I got super smart this year and tied some of our Halloween Math with some extra constructed response practice. The kids never knew they were preparing for an assessment with these fun problems!
This year, our district is having students take constructed response assessments on a few of the fraction common core standards (multiplying fractions by a whole, dividing a whole by a fraction to name a few). I came up with these Halloween themed word problems to give my students a little Halloween fun and some much needed CRA practice. Some of them turned out really well! I also was able to use it to assess their levels. As a whole, most are still confused about which situations require dividing and which require multiplication.
Here are some examples of my students’ work. You may notice the LOVE on some of the papers. I am working diligently on getting the students to show the LOVE on their constructed response assessments. (L-Labels, O-Our Thinking, V-Visuals, E-Equations). Read more about love here. They really don’t mind editing their work when you say something silly like, “Put the LOVE in your paper!” or “Where is the LOVE?”
Hope you enjoying checking out these spooky word problems! I have since given the tasks a face lift and I love the way they look now. They would make a great student work display.
