Free Fraction Center {Nacho Math}

On another note, the heat was running full blast in my room this morning. It reminded me of that Progressive commercial where the guy says, “It is like a sauna in here!” I actually said that to my kids, and then I had to explain what a sauna was. It was unbearable! I teach at the end of the hall, so I took my big ol’ 5th graders out into the hall and taught my math lesson. We taped my chart paper to a supply room door and I used my tabletop markerboard and alternated between writing on the chart paper and using the markerboard. I was impressed with how well my kids did with their mathematical thinking considering our location! To make things a little crazier, we were observed by the principal and the Math Learning Lab support team. I heard later that they said good things about how I connected rounding to a number line to get them to justify and explain why they were rounding up or down versus just remembering the song. Even though, I am pretty sure it may have been a fire hazard, we had a little adventure in math today! A memory that we can definitely write about at the end of the year.
