Math Warm-Up Activities
Transition your students into the math lesson, get their minds ready for math, and get them thinking with these math warm-ups targeted to review and apply grade-level skills. This bundle includes 162 math warm-ups covering various 4th and 5th grade math skills.
Math warm-ups are activities that help students get mentally prepared for their math lessons. These activities are a great way to review previously learned skills, get students thinking about math in different ways, and have them discuss and defend their mathematical thinking.
Odd One Out Math Activities
- This type of math warm-up asks students to look at four whole numbers, decimals, fractions, or mixed numbers and determine which one doesn’t belong out of each group. This is a great activity for review because it requires students to think about what characteristics the other three numbers have in common and how the fourth is different.
Note: A hint sheet is included for this warm-up if you want to support your students through this activity. If you’d like a digital version with hints included, be sure to find the alternate link on page 5 of each PDF.
Two Truths and a Lie Math Activities
- For this math activity, students will be given a whole number, decimal, fraction, or mixed number, and then three statements about it. The student will need to study the statements and determine which are true and which is the lie.
Which One? Math Activities
- This math warm-up requires students to read a situation and then solve the math for three options that would fit the requirements or meet the needs of the situation. Based on the math, students will choose the best option and defend their choice.

Stop and Jot Reading
Do your students struggle to maintain comprehension with longer texts? One strategy that helps students build comprehension stamina is “Stop and Jot.” Stop and Jot is a reading strategy with students stopping as they read to think and jot down notes or answer specific questions. This activity helps students stay engaged with the text and make meaning from what they read.
Stop and Jot is a simple but effective way to help students build comprehension stamina. By stopping at regular intervals, they can process what they have read and make meaning from it before going on to the next section of text.
This bundle includes 15 texts with stop and jot questions throughout. There are 8 fiction texts and 7 nonfiction texts. All of the texts are included in printable and digital format to fit your needs.
