- The students draw a picture of themselves at the bottom of the page. (The students feel so much better about their own drawing skill once they see mine…haha).
- Then they generate about 4-5 aspects of themselves that would be surprising to their peers.
- Let the kids color it slightly to add some fun into it!
Voila! Super simple, but it gives your students another 4-5 go to story ideas that they will love writing about! These should really spark some interesting stories. I share my examples first to get them thinking about unique experiences they have had or interesting or unusual qualities they possess.
They get so curious after hearing my “I bet you didn’t knows.” Every year, the students beg to hear about how I wrecked a jet ski in Florida! This makes this double as a fun getting to know you activity!
I hope you enjoyed reading this simple, but effective writing workshop idea to get your students gather more ideas in their seed notebooks.

I've never used the "I bet you didn't know" seed idea, but it is great. Thanks for the suggestion!
