Jenga games have always been a hit with my students. Since trying out Jenga with my students and seeing how engaged they were, I brainstormed even more math games to create (and share with you). This post will share a Jenga whole number game that reviews whole number skills and is perfect for 3rd-5th grade students (depending on the numbers you choose to use).
Whole Number Review Game Materials:
To play this game, you will need:
Colored Jenga blocks (one per small group) —> I buy the pre-colored ones from Amazon here.
Whole Number Review Game directions and number cards for your specific grade level —> available for free at the end of this post
Directions for Playing:
The basic overview of the game is that students will select number cards, and then, depending on the color of the block they move, they will complete a different task with the number shown on the card.
Here are the specific student directions:
Directions: Select a number card. Choose a block to remove. Complete the task that matches the color of the block that you want to remove with the number on the card. Repeat with each turn.
Here are the tasks the students will complete (depending on the color block they move):
Purple: Write the number in word form.
Blue: Write the number in expanded form.
Green: Select another number card and compare the two numbers using <, >, or =.
Yellow: Round the number to the nearest thousands place and then to the nearest ten-thousands place.
Pink: Select another number card and add the two numbers together.
Red: Select another number card and subtract the smaller number from the larger number.
**I have also included a version that has the students rounding to the hundreds and thousands places for 3rd grade review.
Number Options:
I have included three different multi-digit numbers in the printable download:
4-digit numbers (3rd grade or 4th grade remediation)
5-digit numbers (4th grade or 3rd grade extension)
6-digit numbers (4th grade or 5th grade remediation)
I have also included a blank template if you wish to make more cards for a specific type of number or if you wish to create 3-digit or 7-digit numbers.

I am looking for plastic boxes that fit the stacked Jenga like colored blocks. The ones they came in are too used and I don’t like just putting all the pieces in a ziplock. Any ideas, BEV
I store mine in clear, plastic containers that I got at Walmart. They are similar in size to shoeboxes.
How do students win the game? Do they collect the pieces or put them on top? What happens when the tower falls?
