Have you seen those puzzles floating around social media where you have to determine the value of different images and then solve a final equation? Those are super addictive and I always stop my scroll and solve them. Most of the time, the fifth grade teacher in me gets them correct. However, I have been tricked a time or two. 😉 After solving my fifteenth one this past weekend, I thought it would be fun to use these in the classroom. On this post, I am sharing free Thanksgiving puzzles that follow the same format (although not as algebraic and tricky) as the social media logic puzzles.
About the Thanksgiving Puzzles
As I mentioned above, these free Thanksgiving puzzles are not as algebraic and tricky as the ones you see on social media. Instead, these are pretty straightforward. The students use a variety of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to determine the value of two different Thanksgiving images. Then they use those values to solve a final equation with three operations.
Why Math Logic Puzzles?
Here are some reasons these math logic puzzles are perfect to implement into your classroom instruction:
- The puzzles are engaging challenges and most students love challenges.
- The puzzles help build students’ number sense.
- The puzzles allow the students to practice their math facts in a fun, different way.
- The students can take it a step further and prove/defend their answers. I don’t know about you, but I am always looking for more opportunities for my students to defend their answers.
Seasonal times are the perfect time to mix your math centers up with these free Thanksgiving puzzles. You can also project these puzzles on a whiteboard for morning work or a transition filler.
