Are you looking for a way to celebrate Veterans Day in your classroom? Do you want to teach students about the significance of honoring the day and recognizing the people it celebrates? In this post, I am sharing a free set of Veterans Day reading activities that will combine reading instruction and teaching the importance of Veterans Day.
About the Veterans Day Reading Resource
This free 4th and 5th grade Veterans Day reading activity includes two Veterans Day nonfiction reading passages and three related activities for each. This way you can use your reading instruction to teach students the significance of honoring Veterans and celebrating Veterans Day.
About the Printable Version
The first passage is called All About Veterans Day. The text covers what Veterans Day is, who it honors and why we celebrate it.
The three reading activities to go along with the first passage are:
- Comprehension Questions – students will answer four short answer comprehension questions
- Context Clues – students will define key words using context clues
- True or False Sort – students will cut and paste statements about the text into columns to identify if each statement is a true statement or a false statement.
The second passage is titled The Vietnam Veterans Memorial. As the title suggests, this informative text teaches the reader all about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C.
Just like the first passage, there are three activities to go along with the text.
- Comprehension Questions – students will answer four short answer comprehension questions
- Context Clues – students will define key words using context clues
- Text Structure – students will determine what text structure is used and use evidence to support their answer.

I am teaching K – 2, specifically k, 1st reading intervention. I no longer need access to upper grades activities. How do I gain access to primary grades task cards, digital, and hard copy activities?

I downloaded this to use in my class tomorrow but the part where it it True or False and you are told to pick (click) on a card does not offer any cards. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
